You are Here: Home / Using Co-ordinates
Using the SiteLines on-line database find out how to use co-ordinates and read maps.
This project allows pupils to develop geographical skills through the understanding of co-ordinates by using historical sites within the Tyne and Wear region.
This project is aimed at Key Stage 2 and incorporates Geography, Maths and History (Local Study) of the National Curriculum.
Three downloadable lesson plans provide a clear process on how to use co-ordinates using the SiteLines database (for instructions on using the database see How to Search HER). Through the use of local historical and archaeological sites close to your school, pupils will be able to develop an understanding of how to use co-ordinates in map work. Their research will provide an insight into the location of settlements and the reasons for establishing settlements in particular areas of the geographical landscape.
