Description
Pits and postholes were excavated in Half Moon Yard in 2013. A sample of one of the pits was radiocarbon dated to c.389-206BC, the first radiocarbon dated evidence of Iron Age activity within the centre of Newcastle. Plant remains were recovered from the pits typical of the early Iron Age. It is possible that these features are the remains of roundhouses or other structures from Iron Age settlement.
