          Description
              Opened in 1955 when the licence from the Gosforth Arms in Shieldfield was transferred. It was described as 'a new-style inn' with 'the traditional atmosphere of the English hostelry' whilst satisfying the 'requirements of present-day customers'. It had a large bar, commodious lounge and well-appointed sitting room. It had contemporary 'spirited curtain designs and floor coverings'.
