Description
An altar of yellow sandstone, 0.36 x 0.66 x 0.17 metres, complete, but very badly weathered. There are five lines of text within an inset panel: ((.))EO((...)) CIDIVCV F((.))CIT((...))V RNINVS ((.)) PRO((.)) ((... Perhaps Deo .../.../f((e))cit ((Sat))u/rninus ((?))? pro((... S (for s(ancto. The dedication remains obscure – perhaps to Saturninus. Found in 1977, in an unstratified context, in Railway Arch 1, during archaeological excavations in Castle Garth.
