Heworth, barrage balloon

Barrage balloon site seen on aerial photographs. Two concentric rings of posts for mooring the balloons, at western end of playing fields at Tyne View Gardens. The ring of posts was approximately 23m in diameter. Three possible buildings, two are around 12m in length and are lying parallel to each other. Another much smaller building. Might have been levelled or may lie underneath shrubs and bushes.
The site is shown on Ordnance Survey maps NZ2862NE - A and NZ2862SE - A (surveyed in 1952 and published in 1953).
