Description
During Grainger's excavations in 1834, to create the new Grainger Market, the workmen found an ancient cast of a crucifix, the remains of a gilt spur, a farthing of William III and two other small coins. In March 1835 a fragent of blue marble tombstone was found, with a Lombardic inscription round the edge and an incised shaft of a cross in the centre. Presumably finds deriving from St Bartholomew's Nunnery and cemetery (HER 1431 and 1432).
