Description
Imposing two storey buff brick houses in semi-detached form. Large projecting gables face the street enlivened with darker brick string courses, copious timber and sandstone detailing. All but one of the front elevations have been painted, bays altered, bargeboards missing and a mix of hedges, walls and fencing. No. 3 is the only house to retain its polychromatic brickwork and original windows. Nos. 2 to 6 are plainer than Nos. 1 to 15. These three houses are also altered and partly painted but some sash windows survive along with grand classical door cases and unusual outer doors. The bold extension to No. 6 is enhanced with cedar cladding.

Manors Brewery was founded in 1818 and was run by Johnson & Co., Johnson & Thompson and others. Under Thomas and Mattew Thompson, the brewery had an improved malting and 10 public houses. In 1863 Ridley & Cutter took over ownership of the brewery. The partnership became Ridley, Cutter & Firth in 1888. Ridley & Cutter also had wine and spirits merchants premises in Love Lane. In 1898 Ridley, Cutter & Firth Ltd was formed. They owned many pubs in Newcastle, including the Percy Arms (HER 9933) which has a RCF weather vane. In 1938 Ridley, Cutter & Firth was taken over by Associated Breweries. The Manors Brewery was closed shortly afterwards.

The congregation moved to Salem Chapel in Shieldfield. Individual nonconformist chapels often took on a Biblical name. The names 'Salem' and 'Bethel' were favoured by the New Connexion Methodists.
