Site Type: Broad

SITEDESC
FRENCH CARGO VESSEL, 1852. Supposed to have been disabled by a very heavy sea on the bar, then struck the pier and foundered with the loss of all hands. Rocket lines were fired and hand lines thrown, some of which reached the vessel, but as she broke up in a very short time, the crew became entangled in the wreck so that they could not disengage themselves. The vessel struck at 4.30am in wind conditions E force 10 and squally. Estimated loss on the vessel was £250, but she was uninsured, on the cargo £21, which was ensured for that amount {Lloyds List}.
