Built in 1861 at a cost of £520, and seating 700, this chapel stood on the site of the former Salem Baptist Chapel (HER 17656). By the 1950s it is labelled ‘Merchant Navy Club ’ on the OS 1:2500 map. In the 1970s it was being used by Blundells clothing firm as a warehouse. It has since been demolished.

This building is shown on the 1858 OS map as [United] ‘Methodist Free Church’; it does not appear to have remained in use for very long.

A Mission Chapel, it is not shown on the Ordnance Survey so its exact location is not known, but it would seem to have been around NZ 367 661. As often with small chapels, further information seems hard to come by.

A brick church built in 1881 at a cost of £600 to seat 290, last used in the 1950s and now demolished.

A substantial brick Methodist Free Church with an octagonal corner tower is dated ‘1905’ and remains in use.

A brick church which appears on the 3rd edition OS map and probably dates to the beginning of the 20th century; it remains in use.

The so-called ‘New Chapel’ on the west side of Baring Street was built in 1892; old photographs show what looks like a ‘tin tabernacle’. It was short lived, the congregation moving across the road to new premises, the old building then serving as a laundry and then a warehouse; it is now demolished.
