Description
Raised north-south trackway across a pasture field from Hazlerigg in the north to Middle Brunton Farm in the south. Raised portion at least formed from dumped ash. Has some characteristics of a waggonway although not described as such on any map. An archaeological watching brief was undertaken during the removal of this trackway to form a park and ride facility. The feature was up to 4.5 metres in width and 480 metres deep, constructed of compacted layers of ash, clinker and building debris. To either side of the trackway were hedgerows set in small embankments. No evidence was recovered to suggest that the trackway was a former wagonway, as its construction appeared too insubstantial. It was more likely to have represented a track for pedestrian or horse and cart access. Pottery indicated that the trackway was of postmedieval date.

Description
Possible rectilinear enclosure. Measures 100-150 metres x 60 metres. The western end may be open ended. A probable later track from Great Eppleton SMV (HER 259) crosses the end of the enclosure. A fieldwalking survey collected six pieces of flint (including an EBA blade, a late Neolithic or EBA blade and a post medieval gun flint from a flintlock firearm) along with post medieval tile and clay pipe.
SITEASS
Geophysical survey of this site revealed ploughed-out ridge and furrow cutting across two linear anomalies spaced 100m apart, which may be enclosure ditches. A possible large pit was detected to the east of the ridge and furrow and a broad curvilinear anomaly to the north, which may be a ditch, or natural silting. The interpretation of the two parallel ditch alignments is uncertain, but they could represent a former trackway.
