A section of the West Cramlington Wagonway is visible as earthworks on historical air photos between NY26750 75740 and NY28345 74507. Visible over a distance of approximately 2km. The more recent imagery shows that this feature survives as a hedgeline trackway in some parts and has been integrated into the local network as a cycle track in some other parts.
A further section is visible between Seghill (NY28450 7443) and Havelock Place (NY2984 7283). This section is visible on the 1940s air photos mostly as earthworks though a section at Seghill had already been repurposed as a road by 1947.

Backworth Colliery (C Pit). Opened 1856. 2nd edn OS mapping shows colliery has expanded, with spoil heaps and internal system of wagonways. Closed before 1900. Adjacent to the Colliery, on the western side of the railway was the Hotspur Brick Works, (HER 2217). After the C Pit closed, the site was used for spoil disposal and over the years a massive conical heap developed. By the 1950s the heap was viewed to be a hazard to aircraft approaching the expanding Newcastle airport. The top of the heap was therefore removed. Dumping ceased in the 1970s. The area north of B Pit was used instead.

Description
The Blyth and Tyne Railway, enters/leaves the County at NZ 2952 7414. Marked on 2nd edition Ordnance Survey Map as the NER Newcastle, Backworth & Morpeth Line. Included Holywell Station (HER ref. 1107) and Prospect Hill Station (HER ref. 1145). The line is also marked as the NER Blyth & Tyne Section on the 2nd edition Ordnance Survey Map. This line overlay the Seghill Wagonway, which was opened in 1839, from Seghill Colliery to Howdon. Work on this stretch of line started in 1845 and finished in 1847. The southern end was extended and realigned with the construction of the Northumberland Dock in 1857. The Blyth & Tyne Railway was sold to the N.E.R. in 1874.

The Seghill Wagonway was opened for mineral traffic in 1840, from Seghill Colliery to Howdon. Built by the owners of Seghill Colliery, who had previously used the Cramlington Wagonway for their coals. The line later became the first section of the Blyth and Tyne Railway - work on this stretch of line started in 1845 and finished in 1847. From Seghill to Prospect Hill there were rising gradients of 1 in 228, 1 in 127, 1 in 69, and from Prospect Hill to the Tyne a series of falling gradients. The line was principally worked by stationary engines, one at Prospect Hill, hauling up the loaded wagons from Holywell and empty wagons from Newcastle and North Shields Road, the other at Percy Main, hauling empty wagons from the staiths. From Prospect Hill to Percy Main and from Percy Main to the staiths the loaded wagons ran by gravity, unwinding a tail rope which was to bring back the empty ones. The southern end was extended and realigned with the construction of the Northumberland Dock in 1857. Marked on 2nd edn mapping as the NER Newcastle, Backworth & Morpeth Line. Had Holywell Station (HER 1107) and Prospect Hill Station (HER 1145). Its southern limit was at Northumberland Dock (SMR 2111). The line is also marked as the NER Blyth & Tyne Section on 2nd edition OS mapping. The Blyth & Tyne Railway was sold to the NER in 1874.
