Under the heading, "Cliff Tops towards Marsden Bay" Gibbs recorded flakes and chips. "Some coast fields bear quantities of flint, most of it ballast, probably carted up with seaweed from the shore". Wymer noted an unknown quantity of flint flakes/blades found by Raistrick on the cliffs near Marsden.

Description
Miket records that, in 1963, 130 flint flakes were found on this stretch of coast, "mostly broken fragments but includes eighteen struck flakes, and possibly one core/hammerstone". Wymer, under the heading Marsden and Trow Rocks, reports that in Sunderland Museum, there were 4 cores and 32 blades/flakes from the W. Dodds collection. It is not clear whether these two groups, in spite of different quantities and descriptions, are really one.

Description
On Velvet Island, at the north end of Marsden Bay, in a thin deposit of reddish boulder clay, Gibbs reported the discovery of flakes and chips of flint, and a gunflint. He went on to say, "This clay is at a much lower level than the corresponding deposit on the adjoining cliffs". Miket added to the finds from this spot two flints, "said to have been collected in the 1930s by Dr. A. Raistrick".

Description
A few flints have been found over the years in the general Marsden area, the precise findspots having not been recorded. Two small flakes, each showing a bulb of percussion, were found in 1904, and are in the Sunderland Museum. Wymer notes a blade/flake donated by Raistrick to the Craven Museum, Skipton, and Miket two flints said to have been found in the 1930s by Raistrick, and also in the Craven Museum. Gibbs recorded the discovery of a flake and chips in red soil at Marsden Quarries. In 1964-5 "a scatter of Mesolithic flints including flakes and cores" was seen by M. Chapel, and either not picked up or not given to the museum, at much the same location. The Ordnance Survey quotes museum records for this information. Young adds a note that Wilf Dodds had seen Mesolithic material from this area.

Description
Gibbs apparently recorded the discovery of scrapers, cores, flakes and chips at Marsden New Road, "in the cuttings near the railway station". There is a slight ambiguity in the way he set out this information, and he seems to conflate it with material from Hob and Joan Orchard (HER no. 853). Wymer notes a single blade/flake which is said to have come from Marsden Station, and to have been deposited in Craven Museum, Skipton, by Raistrick.
