Preston found "the butt end of a polished greenstone axe which has been rechipped and then broken or possibly flakes have been struck from it for use after the polished axe was fractured". Referring to trenches on the hill above Hylton Castle, he said he found the axe, and other "well-worked flint implements", in "the nearby fields". "Max. surviving length 41 mm, width 28 mm. Badly chipped and broken". Present whereabouts unknown.

On the brow of the hill above Hylton Castle, "in entrenchments made during the war (i.e. World War 1), there was found "a magnificent gritstone adze". In Preston's possession in 1929, its whereabouts are now unknown, and it may never have left him. Miket suggests, improbably, that this may be a duplicate of 381, which is a perforated greenstone axe and does still exist.

"Butt end of a perforated stone axe, in fine-grained greenstone. Broken across the perforation. Max. surviving length 86 mm, max. width 75 mm, max. thickness 41 mm". The provenance of this object is obscure, and Miket suggests it may be a duplicate of 382, which is described as a gritstone adze. Gibbs' reference to half a stone axe from north of Hylton castle could equally well apply to 383, and this is assumed to be so.

Gibbs recorded the discovery of "reddish yellow scrapers" in this area. Not traced by Young, ? now lost. Note that O.S. have it on the neighbouring map.

Gibbs recorded the discovery of "a scraper, or gun flint" at Brookside Terrace. Not traced by Young, ? now lost. Miket suggests perhaps Brookside Gardens but does not explain why.

Gibbs recorded "reddish yellow scrapers" from this location. Not traced by Young, ? now lost.

Gibbs records the discovery, in Mount Road, of an arrowhead, ?barbed and tanged. Now lost.

Gibbs recorded "a flat scraper" from a "pocket of bedded clay" in the Fulwell Quarries. Young has not seen this object, and its whereabouts are unknown.

A socketed bronze axe was found in the River Wear at Hylton. There is no further information, and its whereabouts are unknown.

In August 1823 "...a human skull and some bones, much in decay, were dug up by the side of Fulwell-hill, near Sunderland". Sykes goes on to remind the reader that, in C9, there had been battles with the Danes here, and in C17 Civil War actions. The second grid ref includes the higher ground west of Fulwell. Miket includes this site in his Prehistoric Gazetteer without any evidence.
