Description
Carley Lodge is shown on the Ordnance Survey First Edition map as a large square building with gardens to the west, and a number of ranges of buildings set around a courtyard forming a farmstead immediately to the north. A gingang is shown within the courtyard against the western range on the Ordnance Survey Second Edition map. It is not clear whether Carley Lodge is attached to the farm. It appears to survive, with numerous modern additions to the west. A stone boundary wall to the north is the only surviving element of the farm.

Description
This building was found during archaeological investigations in 2022 prior to the redevelopment of the site (report 2024/24). It consisted of two rooms which contained deposits very similar to those found to the south (HER19142). These contained very small fragments of exclusively medieval pottery and a possible early medieval sceatta coin. The upper deposits included later artefacts. The building was constructed from sandstone blocks which were squared and square coursed to the north, but more roughly hewn and laid to the east, south and west. The ground level had been built up during the construction of the buildings. The west room had a floor surface of stone paving slabs. The building was modified in the 19th century. A number of boundary walls and small structures lay to the south.

Description
This series of deposits was found during archaeological investigations in 2022 prior to the redevelopment of the site (report 2024/24). They overlay a group of medieval pits (HER19141) and contained a large number of artefacts, particularly metal. These included 17th-19th century pottery, 17th century clay tobacco pipes, iron objects including 18th century shoe buckles and a cannon ball of 16th or 17th century date, copper alloy objects including 20 buttons, lead objects, and eight coins including George II (1727 – 1760) and George III (1760 – 1820). Some of the lead objects such as pieces of lead shot and the cap of a 17th century gunpowder flask are likely to be related to the Siege of Newcastle in 1644 during the English Civil War. The area at this time was open space, part of the Carliol Croft (HER5976).

This series of pits was found during archaeological investigations in 2022 prior to the redevelopment of the site (report 2024/24). The row of oval and circular pits were cut into a grey silty clay alluvium overlying the natural subsoil. Small fragments of medieval pottery were recovered from the paleoenvironmental samples taken from the pits. One pit contained a residual worked flint, possibly Mesolithic or Early Neolithic in date.
