Constructed in 1858. Red brick with sandstone dressing. Ornamental features and facades with stone panels showing the date of construction and a coat-of arms. The building was used as the British Day School. Subsequently it became the Employment Exchange. The building is currently used as a hostel. Features a plaque commemorating a Sunderland AFC meeting hosted here in 1879.

Tatham House an early 19th-century house. By the 1880s the building was used as a girls’ reformatory and Camrex House was constructed in the garden in 1925 to provide accommodation for the Missions to Seamen.

Camrex House constructed in the garden of the original Tatham House in 1925. The building was constructed to provide accommodation for the Missions to Seamen. The red brick structure has a central doorway with the symbol of the Missions to Seamen, a flying angel, above the entrance. The ground floor has 11 tall arch windows. The house was until lately used as a hostel and is currently boarded up.

McCarthy’s chemist shop is located at 1-2 Saville place. Built in a Baroque style in the early 20th-century on the site of Orchard Cottage.

Burton House public house is located at 5-6 Saville place. Built in a Baroque style in the early 20th-century on the site of Orchard Cottage.

The Pantechnicon was constructed in c.1898, replacing an earlier structure, and was used as the sale rooms for . It is currently occupied by Lloyds Pharmacy.

A single field of ridge and furrow aligned NW-SE, curving slightly to the NW end, to the south of West Farm. Shown on a 1945 aerial photo on Google Earth {1}. Likely to be no longer extant since the creation of Wallsend Golf Couse.

The Victoria Hall was located on Toward Road. The site is now occupied by an office block constructed in the 1960s after the hall was damaged during an air raid in World War II. On the 16th June 1883, 183 children died at the Victoria Hall at the end of a concert after a stampede ensued following an announcement that children with certain numbered tickets would be given a prize when they left the hall. After this disaster legislation was passed making compulsory the provision of adequate and outward-opening exits at all places of entertainment. There is a memorial to the children in Mowbray Park (HER 7127).

Edwardian brick and buff terracotta building located on the corner of Frederick Street and Borough Road. The building has large windows and Renaissance-style ornament articulates and Mansard roofs. The Mowbray Buildings are currently occupied by SCS furniture shop.

Frederick lodge, a detached mansion shown on the 1st edition OS. The lodge was known as ‘one of the most aristocratic mansions in the town,’ and was occupied by Sunderland’s first mayor Andrew White. The western portion of the lodge’s garden was developed in 1876 into the New Arcade. From the 1880s the building was used by Inland Revenue.
